Our online Ijazah course lets you recite the whole Quran, one to one on Zoom, to a teacher who holds an Ijazah with sanad in Hafs an Asim. Your teacher corrects every mistake and issues your Ijazah once the full recitation is complete. Students with strong Tajweed usually finish in 6 to 18 months.

Choose a Track

Two Ways to Earn Your Ijazah

Track 1

Ijazah in Recitation (Tilawah)

Recite the whole Quran from the Mushaf with full Tajweed. Ideal for fluent readers and future teachers.

Track 2

Ijazah in Hifz

Recite the whole Quran from memory. For Huffaz who want their memorisation certified. See our Hifz classes.

The Process

How the Ijazah Course Works

1

Assessment

Your teacher listens to your recitation in the free trial and confirms your starting level.

2

Tajweed Review

A short review of makharij, sifaat and rules, so small errors are fixed before the full recitation.

3

Full Recitation

You recite the Quran from start to finish, page by page, with every mistake corrected.

4

Ijazah and Sanad

Once complete, you receive your Ijazah certificate with the full chain of narration.

Why It Matters

Why an Ijazah Matters

The Quran has always been passed on from teacher to student, by listening and reciting. An Ijazah places you in that same chain. It shows that your recitation has been checked carefully by someone whose own recitation was checked in the same way.

Many of our Ijazah students go on to teach their own children, lead prayers or teach in their community with confidence.

Not quite ready? Strengthen your recitation first with our online Tajweed classes and read our guide to Tajweed rules.

وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًا ﴿٤﴾
And recite the Quran with measured, clear recitation.
Surah Al Muzzammil 73:4
Requirements

Are You Ready for Ijazah?

  • You read the Quran fluently from the Mushaf.
  • You know and apply the main Tajweed rules.
  • You can commit to at least three lessons a week.
  • For Ijazah in Hifz: you have memorised the whole Quran.
  • You are happy to recite and be corrected patiently.
  • You pass a short recitation check in the free trial.
Choosing a Teacher

How to Choose an Online Ijazah Teacher

Ask about the sanad

A genuine Ijazah comes with a written sanad listing each teacher in the chain. Ask to see how the chain is recorded before you start.

Expect a test before you begin

A serious teacher will listen to your recitation first. If someone offers an Ijazah without checking your Tajweed, it is a warning sign.

Recitation of the whole Quran

A full Ijazah requires reciting the entire Quran to your teacher. Short courses that only cover a few juz are certificates of completion, not a full Ijazah.

Time and commitment

Plan for at least three lessons a week. Students who recite more often finish sooner, and the Elite plan with six lessons a week is the fastest route.

Ijazah and Hifz together

If you are a Hafiz, an Ijazah in Hifz certifies your memorisation as well as your Tajweed. Many students who finish our Hifz programme continue straight into this track.

FAQs

Online Ijazah: FAQs

What is an Ijazah in the Quran?

An Ijazah is a licence from a qualified teacher confirming that you recite the Quran correctly. It comes with a sanad, a chain of teachers that links back to the Prophet ﷺ.

Can I really get an Ijazah online?

Yes. The Ijazah depends on your recitation being heard and approved by a teacher with sanad, which works well over live video. You recite the whole Quran to your teacher, and the Ijazah is issued once it is complete.

What do I need before starting the Ijazah course?

You should read the Quran fluently with good Tajweed. Your teacher will test you in the free trial. If you need more work first, you can start with our Tajweed classes.

How long does an online Ijazah take?

It depends on your level and how many lessons you take. Most students with strong Tajweed finish in 6 to 18 months; Ijazah in Hifz takes longer because the whole Quran is recited from memory.

Which narration is the Ijazah in?

Our Ijazah is in Hafs an Asim by way of Ash Shatibiyyah, the most widely recited narration in the world.

Is there a difference between Ijazah in recitation and Ijazah in Hifz?

Yes. Ijazah in recitation (tilawah) means you recite the whole Quran from the Mushaf. Ijazah in Hifz means you recite it entirely from memory.

Can sisters study for an Ijazah with a female teacher?

Yes. Sisters can request a female teacher who holds an Ijazah with sanad.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every new student gets a 3 day free trial, including a recitation assessment.

Can I teach the Quran after getting an Ijazah?

Yes. An Ijazah confirms your recitation and traditionally gives permission to teach what you were taught, which is why many teachers and Imams hold one.
