Our online Tajweed classes are private Zoom lessons where a qualified tutor listens to you recite and corrects each letter as you go. Beginners start with the sounds of the letters, then move through the rules of noon and meem sakinah, qalqalah, madd and stopping. Most students learn the core rules in three to six months with two or three lessons a week.

A Taste of a Tajweed Lesson

Allah tells us to recite the Quran slowly and clearly (Surah Al Muzzammil 73:4), and that is exactly what we practise in class. Take the first verse of Surah Al Ikhlas: the letter dal at the end has qalqalah, so when you stop on it the sound gently bounces instead of being swallowed.

Your tutor recites it, you repeat it, and you do not move on until it sounds right. Small corrections like this, made every lesson, are what turn reading into beautiful recitation.

Want a head start? Read our free guides to Tajweed rules with simple examples, ghunna, the 15 ikhfa letters and idgham.

Surah Al Ikhlas 112:1. Stop on the final dal with a light bounce (qalqalah).

Certified Tajweed Tutors

All our tutors are certified in Tajweed and teach the Quran one to one every day. Many are Huffaz, and our female tutors teach sisters and young girls. Every tutor is trained to correct mistakes gently and clearly.

Choosing a Class

How to Choose the Right Online Tajweed Class

There are many Tajweed courses online, from free recorded videos to group webinars and private lessons. Before you choose, ask these questions:

Will a teacher actually hear me recite?

Tajweed is learnt by listening and correcting. Recorded courses explain the rules well, but nobody can tell you that your ΨΆ sounds like a Ψ―. Live one to one classes fix this in real time.

Is the course taught level by level?

Jumping straight to advanced rules without solid makharij leads to frustration. A good course checks your foundations first and only then moves on.

Are the teachers certified?

Ask whether tutors hold a Tajweed certificate or Ijazah. All our tutors are certified in Tajweed, and senior tutors hold Ijazah with sanad.

Does it fit my time zone?

Fixed weekly slots in your own local time are the single biggest reason students keep going. Check that the academy teaches in UK, US, Canadian or Australian hours.

Tajweed or Qirat: what is the difference?

Tajweed is the set of rules for pronouncing the Quran correctly. Qirat refers to the different authentic modes of recitation, such as Hafs an Asim. Almost every student starts with Tajweed in Hafs, which is what our course teaches.

FAQs

Tajweed Classes: Your Questions Answered

How long does it take to learn Tajweed online?

With two or three lessons a week, most students learn the core rules in three to six months. Reciting fluently with full Tajweed usually takes six to twelve months, depending on how much you practise between classes.

Do I need to read Arabic before joining Tajweed classes?

No. If you cannot read Arabic yet, your tutor starts with the Noorani Qaida and moves into Tajweed as soon as you can join letters together.

Can adults learn Tajweed online?

Yes. Many of our students are adults who learnt to read as children but were never taught proper Tajweed. Private one to one lessons let you correct old habits at your own pace without feeling shy.

Can I learn Tajweed with a female teacher?

Yes. Ask for a female tutor when you book your free trial and we will match you with a qualified Qariah from your first lesson.

Are the Tajweed classes on Zoom or Skype?

Lessons run on Zoom by default, with the Mushaf shared on screen. If Skype or Google Meet suits you better, just let us know.

What age can children start Tajweed classes?

Most children are ready from around age five, once they can sit for a 30 minute lesson and have finished the Noorani Qaida.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. Students who complete all three levels receive a course certificate, and strong reciters can continue to our Ijazah course.

Is there a free trial for Tajweed classes?

Yes. Every new student gets a 3 day free trial, so you can meet your tutor and see how lessons work before you pay anything.

What is the difference between Tajweed and Qirat?

Tajweed is the set of rules for pronouncing the Quran correctly. Qirat refers to the authentic modes of recitation, such as Hafs an Asim. Students learn Tajweed first, in Hafs.

Can I learn Tajweed online for free?

Free videos and guides, like our Tajweed rules guide, are a great start, but only a live teacher can correct your recitation. Our 3 day free trial lets you experience that before paying.
