The five rukus of Surah Yaseen and their main themes

Surah Yaseen is a Makki surah that speaks to the heart. It opens by swearing by the wise Quran that Muhammad ﷺ is a true messenger, then tells the story of a town that rejected three messengers and of one believing man who ran from the far end of the city to support them. It ends with one of the most powerful verses about Allah’s power: “His command, when He intends a thing, is only to say to it, Be, and it is” (36:82).

RukuVersesTheme
11 to 12The Quran and the Prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ; why some hearts refuse to believe
213 to 32The people of the town (Ashab al Qaryah), the three messengers and the believing man
333 to 50Signs in creation: the dead earth brought to life, night and day, sun and moon, ships at sea
451 to 67The trumpet, resurrection, the people of Paradise and the sealing of mouths
568 to 83The Quran is not poetry; Allah who created the human from a drop can give life again

Benefits of Surah Yaseen: What Is Authentic

Surah Yaseen is one of the most loved surahs in South Asian homes. Many famous “benefits” are shared without sources, so here they are sorted by what the hadith scholars actually said.

Every letter is rewardedEvery letter of the Quran earns a good deed multiplied by ten, and Surah Yaseen is no exception. Tirmidhi 2910 · sahih
Reflection on the HereafterThe surah’s verses on resurrection and Allah’s power are a direct reminder that softens the heart, which is the purpose of recitation (Quran 38:29).
Forgiveness when read at night“Whoever recites Yasin at night seeking the Face of Allah will be forgiven” is reported by Ibn Hibban and ad Darimi. Some scholars accepted it while others criticised its chain. Scholars differ
“Heart of the Quran”The famous narration is in Tirmidhi 2887. Tirmidhi called it gharib and al Albani graded it fabricated. Weak according to most
Recite it over the dyingAbu Dawud 3121 is graded weak by many hadith scholars, although reciting Quran near the dying is widely practised as general recitation. Weak chain
Read 41 times or on 7 mubeenFixed numbers, “7 mubeen” rituals and promised rewards for specific nights have no authentic source. No basis

None of this reduces the value of Surah Yaseen. It is part of the Quran, so reciting it with understanding is always rewarded. The point is simply to attribute to the Prophet ﷺ only what he actually said.
