Noorani Qaida Page 6 Online: Huroof Muqatta'at (abbreviated letters) and Harakat (Zabar, Zer and Pesh), Practice for Kids

Noorani Qaida page 6 covers the Huroof Muqatta'at, followed by the start of Harakat (Takhti 3 and 4). It is page 6 of 32 in the colour-coded Urdu edition of the Qaida, shown in high resolution so every dot and vowel sign is clear for online practice with your child.

What is on Noorani Qaida page 6?

This page contains the Huroof Muqatta'at, followed by the start of Harakat. Takhti 3 covers the Huroof Muqatta'at, the separate letters that open 29 surahs of the Quran, such as الٓمّٓ (Alif Lam Meem), يسٓ (Ya Seen), طه (Ta Ha), حمٓ (Ha Meem) and كٓهيٰعٓصٓ (Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad). Each letter is read by its full name, never joined into a word. Takhti 4 introduces the three short vowels: Fatha (Zabar) gives an "a" sound, Kasra (Zer) gives an "i" sound and Damma (Pesh) gives a "u" sound. Every letter of the alphabet is practised with all three, so the student learns to read sounds instead of letter names.

How to practise page 6

  1. Read every letter by its name: Alif Laaam Meeem, not "Alam".
  2. Stretch the letters that carry the madd sign, as the teacher shows.
  3. Read each letter with its vowel in one short beat: ba, bi, bu.
  4. Keep the vowels short. A short vowel is one count, never stretched.

Common mistakes on this page

  • Reading الم as one word instead of three letter names.
  • Stretching short vowels so they sound like long vowels.
